A study on basic health statistics production for health policies establishment

Abstract

|
Health statistics is very important in health policy establishment and health promotion programs. This study was carried out to review the overall health statistics system and contents on a national and local bark in Korea.
The objectives of this study were to review the health statistics production system and contents at present, and to suggest an efficient methods on producing basic health statistics for governmental health policies.
Besides of items and production system on health statistics in Japan and United Stater, contents and items of annual health statistics published by Ministry of Health and Welfare and Local Governments were reviewed.
Health data collecting system is two lines in Korea. One is to be reported from local administration units and the other is to be surveyed by related authorities. Health statistics production system should be classified three tiers by governmental types namely central government, provincial government and local government.
After central and provincial governments should produce some health statistics, distributing them to local governments should be more desired.
Personnels in charge of health statistics in local government were none and deficient in central governments. Government has to expand devision of health statistics and supplement of experts in related authorities.
